MINING LAW OPTIMIZES SECTOR
 Law No. 4 / 2009 on Mineral and Coal Mining have given a new direction for the future of mining in Indonesia, including Domestic Market Obligation, policies on mineral and coal production, increasing the value of mining, and proper ways of mining.
“These new directions is aimed at optimizing the role of mining towards economic growth and public welfare” explains the Director General of Mineral, Coal, and Geothermal, Bambang Setiawan during a seminar on “The Role of Mineral and Coal Mining Towards Economic Growth” at the Kartika Chandra Hotel (25/2).
The Director General further explains that even though the mining sector have always been at the forefront of public scrutiny, it has also provided a major contribution towards the national development. In 2009 alone, these contributions include Rp 51 trillion worth of direct revenue from the mining sector, Rp 15 trillion of which is marked as non-tax revenue; US$ 1,8 billion from working contract companies, state owned companies; direct workforce employment from mining companies; export of mineral and coal commodities; and contribution for regional development which is sourced from mining company royalties and community development programs.
This seminar is aimed at socializing the mining law to stakeholders of the sector, urging them to express their thoughts and inputs on the mining law, and motivating them to increase mining investment. Attendants to the seminar is expected to gain a better understanding on the mining law and its associated regulations in order for them to increase mining investment which in turn will support the national development.
