LAND OVERLAPPING UNAVOIDABLE
Land overlapping issues in the mining industry is unavoidable due to the availability of mineral, coal, and oil resources which are often located below lands belonging to other sectors, including forestry.
These overlapping issues will eventually hinder the exploitation of oil, gas, mineral, coal, and geothermal energy. One prime example is that 30% of the geothermal areas is located in conservation areas, requiring the amendment of Article 38 of Law No. 41 /1999 on Forestry.
“Over 30% of geothermal reserves is located on conservation land” explains the Director General of Mineral, Coal, and Geothermal, Bambang Setiawan during a hearing with Commission VII of the House of Representatives.
To solve these overlapping issues, we all need to synchronize policies related to the sector in order to further optimize mining developments and reduce its harmful effects towards the forestry sector.
