NALCO SEEKS CONSULTANT FOR $4 BILLION INDONESIAN SMELTER, PLANT
 National Aluminium Co., India’s second-biggest producer of the metal, called for bids for a consultant on its proposed aluminum smelter and coal-based power plant in Indonesia at a cost of $4 billion.
The winning consultant will have eight months to prepare a detailed report for the project, which includes a 0.5 million metric ton-capacity smelter and a 1,250-megawatt plant in east Kalimantan province, according to the tender document posted on the company’s Web site today.
The Bhubaneswar, India-based company, which has alumina output of 2.1 million tons, plans to export 0.5 million tons to Indonesia after the smelter’s initial aluminum capacity of 0.25 million tons comes on stream.
The company will also require about 4 million tons of coal for the plant and has signed an agreement with Middle East Coal Pte to provide the fuel, the document, said.
The consultants have till March 2 to submit bids for the project, which will be built in two phases.
