SUBHASH PROJECTS BEGINS MINING AT INDONESIAN COAL BLOCK
 Kolkata-based infrastructure company Subhash Projects and Marketing (SPML) has begun mining at its coal block in Indonesia and will begin despatching coal next month, chairman Anil Sethi said.
SPML had acquired the PT Bism mine along with power equipment maker Emco last year for about $40 million. SPML holds 55% in the mine and Emco the rest. "The infrastructural activity at the mine was on for a year and we began mining last month," Sethi said. The mine has reserves of over 100 million tonnes. "We plan to export the coal to all across Asia, including India," he said.
The Indonesian government had last month proposed a plan to cap the export of coal at 150 million tonnes a year to meet the demand of local companies. The plan could come into force next year. "After the ban we would supply about 25-30% of the coal to local companies and export the rest," Sethi said. He added that the mine would start booking revenues next fiscal. He did not reveal how much the company expects the mine to contribute to the topline. "The market is volatile right now, so we can make a projection in a couple of months," he added.
SPML has an order-book of Rs 3,800 crore, about 60% of which comes from water contracts, 25% from infrastructure and 15% from power, which includes rural electrification, sub-stations and transmission lines. Their contribution to the topline is in a similar proportion.
"We are not very keen on rural electrification projects because of issues with villagers and panchayats," said Sethi. The share of power contracts in the order-book was 40% last year. SPML is one of the biggest companies in the water space, with projects spread across the country. SPML is also developing 42 mw of hydro power in Himachal Pradesh.
