EUROPEAN GAS SUPPLY SURPLUS, NOVEMBER HBA DOWN TO US$ 308.2 PER TON - ESDM
 European gas supply conditions have a major influence in determining fluctuations in the Reference Coal Price (HBA). The November 2022 HBA recorded a decline of USD22.77 per ton or 7.39% compared to the October HBA to USD 308.2 per tonne says Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Republic of Indonesia in a press release.
"The increase in gas supply in Europe has made gas prices decrease, and the weak gas price has an impact on coal prices which also decline," said Head of the Communications, Public Information Services and Cooperation Bureau (KLIK) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Agung Pribadi in Jakarta, Thursday (3/11).
Another factor that contributed to the decline in HBA was China's coal production and economic conditions. "In addition, the increase in coal production and the slowdown in the Chinese economy have also contributed to the decline in global coal prices," said Agung.
The movement of the HBA since the beginning of 2022 touched the highest value in October, where the HBA rose to touch the level of USD330.97 per ton. The geopolitical condition in Europe as a result of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, which caused fluctuations in European gas prices, became the main driving factor. China's coal production which has increased but its economic slowdown is another factor in the decline in HBA this month, the press release further noted.
There are two derivative factors that affect the movement of HBA, namely, supply and demand. In terms of supply derivatives, it is influenced by season (weather), mining techniques, supplier country policies, to supply chain technicalities such as trains, barges, and loading terminals.
Meanwhile, the demand derivative factor is influenced by declining electricity demand, which correlates with industrial conditions, import policies, and competition with other energy commodities, such as LNG, nuclear, and hydro.
HBA itself is a price obtained from the average index of the Indonesia Coal Index (ICI), Newcastle Export Index (NEX), Globalcoal Newcastle Index (GCNC), and Platt's 5900 in the previous month, with quality equivalent to 6322 kcal/kg GAR. , Total Moisture 8%, Total Sulfur 0.8%, and Ash 15%.
This month HBA will be used directly in the sale and purchase of coal commodities (spot) for month of November at the point of delivery of sales on a Free on-board basis on a transport vessel (FOB Veseel).
