SHORT PERIOD RATES FOR SUPRAMAX WAS AT US$ 19,000 / 20,000 PER DAY FOR VESSELS OPENING FAR EAST / SE ASIA - VISTAAR SINGAPORE
 COALspot.com (Singaproe): BDI continues to rally crossing the 4,000 mark. The BDI increased this week by 718 points up by 21 pct and closed at 4,111 points. The increase on cape index was much higher this week by 1,600 points up by 28 pct and closed at 7,183 points.
The Panamax index also continued maintained the momentum as last week and increased by 422 points up by 12 pct and closed at 3,978 points.
There was sharp increase in the Supramax index by 529 points up by 28 pct and closed at 2,147 points. The handysize index increased by 85 points up by 10 pct and closed at 970 points. The average charter hire was at Cape / US$ 76,534 per day, Panamax / US$ 31,972 per day , Supramax / US$ 22,453 per day and Handysize / US$ 13,950 per day.
The supramax index in the Far East (S6 route) was quite firm this week at US$ 20,970 per day. The ECI / China (S7) route was quite firm at US$ 24,100 per day.
Short period rates for Supramax was at US$ 19,000 / 20,000 per day for vessels opening Far East / SE Asia. Supramax have been reported fixed for US$ 17,000 per day for 1 year.
Period Fixture
The period fixtures on Panamax continued to be strong and 2 year period rate was reported at US$ 19,000 per day. With the increase in spot activity the futures have also moved up and the futures for three years for 2010-2012 is around Cape / US$ 30,000 per day, Panamax / US$ 17,500 per day, Supramax / US$ 15,500 per day, Handysize / US$ 11,500 per day.
The reason for increase in the freight market seems to be strong demand of iron ore and coal imports by china. The Cape and Panamax has been driving the BDI said Capt. Reddy, Vistaar Shipping, Singapore.
The congestion in Australia increased to 124 vessels in EC Australia with maximum waiting at DBCT 30 / 40 days . The waiting at WC Australia for iron ore was at 8 vessels. The congestion in Paradip and Haldia continues to high and uncertain.
Crude Price
The brent crude prices moved up sharply this week to almost US$ 80 per barrel , however towards the close of week there was bit of softening and was at US$ 76.37 per barrel.
The bunker prices was around US$ 465 pmt for IFO(380 cst) prices ex Singapore.
