THE COAL MOVEMENT TO INDIA FROM SOUTH AFRICA AND INDONESIA WOULD BE CONTINUE INCREASE - VISTAAR SINGAPORE
 COALspot.com (Singapore): The BDI continued to be firm with an increase of 60 points and closed at 3,103 points.
The cape index also was firm and up by 205 points and closed at 5,047 points and the Panamax index was up by 102 pints at 3,150 points. The Supramax and Handysize was almost at same levels with slight softening and closed at 1,820 points and 867 points respectively.
The average charter hire was at Cape / US$ 52,657 per day, Panamax / US$ 25,292 per day , Supramax / US$ 19,026 per day and Handysize / US$ 12,401 per day.
The supramax index in the far east (S6 route) was quite firm at US$ 18,150 per day. The ECI / China (S7) route was slightly soft at US$ 19, 026 per day. The Far east / SE Asia market was quite hot this week with most supramax demanding close to US$ 20,000 per day.
Short period rates were at US$ 18,500 / 19000 per day for vessels opening Far east / SE Asia. The futures for three years for 2010-2012 is around Cape / US$ 27,000 per day, Panamax / US$ 16,000 per day, Supramax / US$ 14,000 per day, Handysize / US$ 11,000 per day.
"The bulk cargo movement seems to be picking up and if it continues the charterer rates would continue to be firm" says Capt. Reddy, Managing Director of Vistaar Shipping Singapore.
He further said, the futures are still weak and there does not seem to be much optimism. The coal movement to India from South Africa and Indonesia would be continue increase and demand for ships is expected to be quite be strong in this region.
The congestion in Australia increased to 106 vessels in EC Australia and 25 iron ore vessels waiting WC Australia. The berthing delays at DBCT continued to be around 30/40 days and New Castle at 10 days.
The crude prices was slightly soft compared to last week and brent crude was at US$ 75.22 per barrel. The bunker prices was around US$ 460 pmt for IFO(380 cst) prices ex Singapore.
