PANAMAX - THIS WEEK THE DEMAND HAS PICKED UP, BUT THE TONNAGE LIST IS INCREASING DAY BY DAY - FEARNLEYS
 Cape Size
More or less flat from previous week, with cape rates moving from US$ 19,500 to 18,900 on average. West Australia however being more positive, with c5 presently at US$ 8.4 pmt level, up from upper US$ 7's previous week due to tighter supply caused by another typhoon hitting as well as practical challenges related to Covid 19, Fearnleys said in its latest weekly report.
Period activity is presently low.
Panamax
According to Fearnleys ‘s weekly report published on last Thursday further noted that, last week we saw the Panamax market taking a turn with a slower market and less demand, especially in the Atlantic. This week the demand has picked up, but the tonnage list is increasing day by day.
ECSA TA’s are being fixed on APS bss and the P1A index is currently yielding around US$15,000 while the shorter Baltic rounds has been fixed at low US$14,000 bss UK delivery. For the ECSA grain run to Far East there has been talks of better bids, and currently being reported at around US$14,000 bss delivery SE Asia. In the Pacific in general we do see a more stable market with rounds being fixed in the US$ 13,500 -14,000 region depending on delivery.
Supramax
Fearnleys also noted that, less activity from Atlantic where all routes lost some ground. Handful fresh orders from N Cont. Some scrap cargoes were fixed around 15 on ultras.
Grain run from B Sea to SE ASIA were concluded close to US$ 23,000. From Med to W Africa with clinker one could reach levels around US$ 18,000.Similar for ships open Cont-levels for USG fhaul rates where ships were covered around US$ 25,000. USG back to Cont were done around US$ 16,000. Still strong rates from the Indian Ocean where ships are fixing around USD 16,000 to China and around USD 14,000+400,000 gbb S Africa to Far East. Further east Nopac rv fixing above US$ 10,000 for nopac rv’s, while backhaul rates around half.
