INDONESIA'S BAYAN RESOURCES SIGNED A COAL SUPPLY AGREEMENT WITH THE BANGLADESH BCPCL TO SUPPLY 23 MILLION TONS OF COAL FOR 10 YEARS
 On Monday, 17th June 2019, PT. Bayan Resources signed a Coal supply Agreement with the Bangladesh- China Power Company (Pvt.) Limited. BCPCL is a joint venture between the North-West Power Generation Company Bangladesh Limited (NWPGCL) and China National machinery Import and Export Corporation (CMC).
According to press release of company, the coal will be supplied to the 1st phase of the Payra 1320MW Thermal Power Plant which has been constructed at Kalapara Upazila located in the Patuakkhali District in southern Bangladesh.
The Agreement has an initial 10 years term from the date of commencement of delivery which is currently expected in June 2020 with a further 10 year extension option after this. In the meaning, the Bayan Resources will supply coal to BCPCL for commissioning purposes with this coal expected to commence delivery in Q3 2019.
The press release further noted that, the agreement volume for the initial 10 year period is 23 million tonnes which would value this Agreement at well over US$ 1 billion using current market pricing. The majority of the coal to be supplied under this Agreement will be produced from the Bayan's world-class Tabang project in East Kalimantan.
The President Director of Bayan, Dato' Dr. Low Tuck Kwong who attended the signing ceremony in Bangladesh, stated "This contract represents not only the beginning of a new relationship between our two companies but also a strengthening of the relationship between our two countries. Bayan is very honored to be selected as the first major coal supplier to the Payra 1320MW Thermal Power Plant and we envisage that, with this first step, Bayan's Tabang coal will become a well-accepted staple in Bangladesh’s growing power sector"
