THE PORT OF NEWCASTLE HAS SHIPPED 14.94 PERCENT LESS COAL IN OCTOBER 2017, DATA SHOWS
Port of NewcastleCOALspot.com: The Port of Newcastle, Australia’s major trading ports, and the world’s largest coal export port has shipped $AU 1,466.8 Million worth of 11.638 million tons of Power plant coal and coking coal for the month of October 2017.

The average selling price for month October 2017 was around $AU 126.02 (approximately US$ 95.59*) per ton, up approximately 3.89 percent month over month. The average selling price of $AU 121.29 (approximately US$ 92.00*) per ton was recorded in September 2017.

The port has shipped 14.94 percent less coal in October 2017 compared to its September 2017 loading of 13.68 million tons.

$AU 1,466,800,000 trade value of coal shipped in October 2017 compared to $AU 1,659,700,000 in September 2017. Year to month, the port has shipped $AU 16.62 billion worth of 131.718 million tons of coal. The average selling price for the period January – October 2017 was around $AU 126.22 per ton (approximately US$ 95.74*).

According to operation report posted on port’s website, as of 31 October 2017, the port has served 131 (down 12.66% month on month) ocean-going vessels in October 2017. The port has also served 1,451 ocean-going vessels for 10 months of 2017.

The port’s report further noted that the Port of Newcastle has shipped coal to Australia, China, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Caledonia & Taiwan in the month of October 2017.

Anglo, Peabody, Rio Tinto and Xstrata are some of the larger coal exporters to ship coal from Newcastle port.

The Port of Newcastle is the largest bulk shipping port on the east coast of Australia and the world’s leading coal export port. On 30 May 2014, Port of Newcastle Investments (trading as Port of Newcastle) commenced a 98-year lease of the Port of Newcastle with the New South Wales Government.

According to company’s website, the principal trade at the Port of Newcastle is coal. Non-coal commodities traded through the port include grain, steel, project cargo, vegetable oils, fuels, orange juice concentrate and containers destined for local business.
