THE PORT OF NEWCASTLE HAS SHIPPED 0.99 PERCENT LESS COAL IN APRIL 2017
 COALspot.com: The Port of Newcastle, Australia’s major trading ports, and the world’s largest coal export ports has shipped $AU 1,636.2 Million worth of 13.654 million tons of Power plant coal and coking coal for the month April 2017.
According to Port’s monthly report, YTD (2017 calendar year to date), the port has shipped $AU 6.246 billion worth of 52.191 million tons of coal. The average selling price YTD was $AU 119.69 per MT, rose approximately 37.78 percent from the same period in 2016.
The average selling price for month April 2017 was around $AU 119.83 (approximately US$ 86.63*) per ton, down approximately 2.11 percent from March 2017 average selling price of $AU 122.42 per ton and rose approximately 37.30 percent compared to April 2016.
Port has shipped 0.99 percent less coal in April 2017 compared to its March 2017 loading of 13.79 million tons. Port has also shipped 5.41% more coal YoY.
$AU 1,632.2 million trade value of coal shipped in April 2017 compared to $AU 1,688.5 million in March 2017, down 3.06 percent month on month.
According to operation report posted on port’s website, as of 30 April 2017, the port has served 149 (down 1.97% month on month) ocean-going vessels in April 2017. The port also served 578 ocean going vessels January to April 2017.
The port’s report further noted that the Port of Newcastle has shipped coal to Australia, China, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Caledonia and Taiwan in the month of April 2017.
Anglo, Peabody, Rio Tinto and Xstrata are some of the larger coal exporters to ship coal from Newcastle port.
