THE PORT OF NEWCASTLE SHIPPED $AU 15.279 BILLION WORTH OF 161.399 MILLION TONS OF COAL IN 2016
 COALspot.com: The Port of Newcastle, Australia’s major trading ports and the world’s largest coal export port has shipped $AU 1,453.1 Million worth of 15.943 million tons of Power plant coal and coking coal for the month ended December 2016. The average selling price for month December 2016 was around $AU 91.14 (approximately US$ 68.97 *) per ton, rose approximately 3.41 percent from November 2016 average selling price of $AU 88.13 per ton.
According to Port’s monthly report, YTD (2016 calendar year to date), the port has shipped $AU 15.279 billion worth of 161.399 million tons of coal. The average selling price YTD was average $AU 94.66 per MT.
Port has shipped 16.99 percent more coal in December 2016 compared to its November 2016 loading of 13.627 million tons.
$AU 1,453.1 million trade value of coal shipped in December 2016 compared to $AU 1,201.0 million in November 2016.
According to operation report posted on port’s website, as of 31 December 2016, the port has served 183 (up 26.20% month on month) ocean going vessels in December 2016 and 1,764 vessels January – December in 2016.
The port’s report further noted that the Port of Newcastle has shipped coal to Australia, China, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Caledonia & Taiwan in the month of December 2016.
Anglo, Peabody, Rio Tinto and Xstrata are some of the larger coal exporters to ship coal from Newcastle port.
