INDONESIA TO INDIA FREIGHT RATES ARE EXPECTED TO BE SOFT THIS WEEK
 COALspot.com: The Baltic Exchange, tracking rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities decline this past week and ending on a negative note week over week. The BDI was down by just 9% from the previous week and Cape Index was down 28.28% or around 618 points week over week.
The Baltic Dry Index (BDI) of dry-bulk shipping freights, a measure of global supply and demand for shipping of commodities was reported down 9% week over week and ended at 1090 points on 11 December 2016. The index peaked at 11,793 in May 2008.
The Cape Index was down 28.18% week over week. The BCI closed 1575 points on 11 December 2016. The Panamax index (BPI) was flat week over week on 11 December 2016. The Supramax index (BSI) was rose 4.88% to 966 points on 11 December 2016, compared to 921 points on 2 December 2016.
The handy size index was also increased 4.42% and the index was closed at 567 points for the same period.
According to Vistaar India, this past week’s daily average earnings for Supramax, for the route Indonesia to India passing through Singapore was slightly softened, owners were rating at around US$ 7500-8000 per day, while the Panamax vessels rated at around $ 9000 per day delivery South China / Hong Kong range.
The freight rates are expected to be steady this week.
The Vistaar India further noted that the average spot Cape’s charter rates were reported at around US$ 8,845 per day and Panamax was reported at around US$ 12,023 per day. The spot Supramax’s average charters rate was reported at around $ 10,099 per day, while the Handy-size ships were at $ 8,038 per day. The average spot charter rates for all size ships rose week over week except for Cape-size ships, which fell drastically compared to last week.
The futures for three years (2016-2018) for the ships were reported higher than the current spot rates the ships were earning. The Cape-size ships were at US$ 11000 per day, the Panamax at US$ 8,500 per day, Supramax at US$ 7,500 per day and Handysize at US$ 7000 per day.
The Supramax S8 route charter rates fell 1.69% week over week to $6,338 per day on Friday 11 December 2016 ($6,447 was reported on 2 December 2016).
According to Vistaar the freight rate from Indonesia to India is expected to be soft this week.
The Brent crude oil price was closed at US$ 54.33 per barrel, almost flat week over week. The bunker prices were closed at US$ 323.50 pmt (IFO 380 cst ex. Singapore on 11 December 2016) significant increase week over week.
