BALTIC DRY INDEX FALLS TO 1181 POINT, DOWN 76 POINTS W/W
 COALspot.com: The Baltic Exchange, tracking rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities down slightly and ending in a negative note this past week. The BDI was down 6% from last week and Cape Index was down 17.77% or around 489 points week over week.
The Baltic Dry Index (BDI) of dry-bulk shipping freights, a measure of global supply and demand for shipping of commodities was reported down 6.05% week over week and ended at 1181 points on 25November 2016. The index peaked at 11,793 in May 2008.
The Cape Index was down 17.77% week over week. The BCI closed 2263 points on 25 November 2016. The Panamax index (BPI) was up (0.07%) to 1389 points on 25 November 2016. The Supramax index (BSI) was up (12.23%) to 908 points on 25 November 2016, compared to 809 points on 18 November 2016.
Meantime, the handy size index was rose (11.59%) week on week and closed at 520 points for the same period.
According to Vistaar India, the average daily earnings for Supramax, for the route Indonesia to India passing through Singapore, rated at around US$ 9000 per day this past week, while the Panamax vessels rated at around $ 9000 per day delivery South China / Hong Kong range.
The freight rates are expected to be firm this week.
The Vistaar India further noted that the spot Cape’s average charter rates were reported at around US$ 11488 per day and Panamax was reported at around US$ 11083 per day. The cape average charter rate was decline slightly and Panamax average charter rate was rose slightly week over week.
The spot Supramax’s average charters rate was at around $ 9498 per day, while the Handysize ships were at $ 7363 per day. The Supramax and Handy-Size charter rates rose week over week.
The futures for three years (2016-2018) for the ships were reported lower than the current spot rates the ships were earning. The Cape-size ships were at US$ 11000per day, the Panamax at US$ 7,500 per day, Supramax at US$ 7,000 per day and Handysize at US$ 6,500 per day.
The Supramax S8 route charter rates up (6.61%) week over week to $6566 per day on Friday 25 November 2016 ($6159 was reported on 18 November 2016).
According to Vistaar the freight rate from Indonesia to India is expected to be firm this week.
The Brent crude oil price was closed at US$ 47.24 per barrel slightly up 0.81% week over week. The bunker prices were closed at US$ 290 pmt (IFO 380 cst ex. Singapore on 25 November 2016).
