INDONESIA OFFERS AN OPPORTUNITY TO INDIANS
 Meri News reported that, Indonesia is all set to launch the country's second 10,000 MW accelerated power expansion programme. The new power development programme offered a good opportunity for Indian companies to participate in the renewable energy projects.
INDONESIA is all set to launch the country's second 10,000 MW accelerated power expansion programme that will beef up the production of electricity from new and renewable energy sources, Purnomo Yusgiantoro, Minister of Energy & Mineral Resources, said here today (September 7).
Addressing a meeting organised by FICCI, the Indonesian minister said, the new power development programme offered a good opportunity for Indian companies to participate in the renewable energy projects.
While the first 10,000 MW accelerated programme in Indonesia was based on coal fired-stations, the country proposes to generate 48 of new power from geothermal sources, 14 per cent from natural gas, 12 per cent from hydro and 26 per cent from coal. More than 50 per cent of electricity in the the new 10,000 MW programme is proposed to be generated by Independent Power Producers (IPPs).
Yusgiantoro said, there was growing interest between Indonesian and Indian companies to intensify their cooperation in energy and minerals sector. This, he said, comes in the wake of the ‘strategic partnership’ agreement signed between the two countries in 2005.
Under the ‘strategic partnership’ agreement, India and Indonesia have set a two-way trade target of $10 billion by 2010.
The minister called for annual bilateral meetings between government officials and business-to-business contacts to deepen the economic engagement between the two countries.
The meeting was also addressed by Andi M Ghalib, Indonesian Ambassador to India and Raaj Kumar, CEO and Director, GMR Energy Ltd.
