THE PORT OF NEWCASTLE SHIPPED 16.97 PERCENT MORE COAL IN SEPTEMBER
 COALspot.com: The Port of Newcastle, Australia’s major trading ports and the world’s largest coal export port has shipped $AU 1,216.7 million worth of 14,603,503 tons of coal for the month ended September 2016. The average selling price for month August was around $AU 83.31 (approximately US$ 64.33) per ton.
According to Port’s monthly report, YTD (2016 calendar year to date), the port has shipped $AU 10.085 billion worth of 118,744,006 tons of coal. The average selling price YTD was around average $AU 84.93 per MT.
Port has shipped 16.97 percent more coal in September compared to its August 2016 loading of 12.484 million tons.
$AU 1,216.7 million trade value of coal shipped in September 2016 compared to $AU 1,213.9 million in August 2016.
According to operation report posted on port’s website, as of 30 September 2016, the port has served 162 (up 14.89% month on month) ocean going vessels in September2016 and 1,296 vessels January – September this year.
The port’s report further noted that the Port of Newcastle has shipped coal to Australia, China, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Caledonia and Taiwan in the month of September 2016.
Anglo, Peabody, Rio Tinto and Xstrata are some of the larger coal exporters to ship coal from Newcastle port.
