THE PORT OF NEWCASTLE SHIPPED 12.48 MMT OF COAL IN AUGUST; AVERAGE SELLING PRICE WAS $AU 83.33
 COALspot.com: The Port of Newcastle, Australia’s major trading ports and the world’s largest coal export port has shipped $AU $1,040.4 Million worth of 12.484 million tons of Power plant coal and coking coal for the month ended August 2016. The average selling price for month August was around $AU 83.33 (approximately US$ 62.55) per tons rose approximately 2.08 percent from July 2016 average selling price of $AU 81.63 per ton.
According to Port’s monthly report, YTD (2016 calendar year to date), the port has shipped $AU 8.751 billion worth of 104.140 million tons of coal. The average selling price YTD was around average $AU 84.03 per MT.
Port has shipped 8.07 percent less coal in August compared to its July 2016 loading of 13.581 million tons.
$AU 1,040.4 million trade value of coal shipped in August 2016 compared to $AU 1,108.8 million in July 2016.
According to operation report posted on port’s website, as of 31 August 2016, the port has served 141 (up 0.71% month on month) ocean going vessels in August 2016 and 1,134 vessels January – August this year.
The port’s report further noted that the Port of Newcastle has shipped coal to Australia, China, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Caledonia and Taiwan in the month of August 2016.
Anglo, Peabody, Rio Tinto and Xstrata are some of the larger coal exporters to ship coal from Newcastle port.
