U.S'S COAL EXPORTS HAVE DECLINED FOR TWELVE QUARTERS IN A ROW - EIA
 COALspot.com – U.S, world’s one of the largest coal producers has produced approximately totalled an estimated 13.7 million short tons (mmst) of coal in a week (For the week ended June 25, 2016), EIA said in its latest report.
According to EIA’s latest report, this production estimate is 2.5% higher than last week's estimate and 11.9% lower than the production estimate in the comparable week in 2015.
East of the Mississippi River produced totalled an estimated 5.2 mmst (up up 1.92% week over week) and west of the Mississippi River produced totalled an estimated 8.4 mmst (up 3.70% week over week), according to weekly figures released by the US Energy Information Agency (EIA), on June 30, 2016.
U.S. year-to-date (as of June 25, 2016) coal production totalled an estimated 316.6 mmst, 28.2% lower than the comparable year-to-date coal production in 2015. U.S. coal production during Q4'15 totalled 207.4 million short tons, 12.6% lower than the previous quarter and 18.2% lower than Q4' 14.
Coal Output
According to EIA's Quarterly Coal Report, U.S. coal production during first quarter 2016 totaled 173.0 million short tons. This was 16.6% lower than the previous quarter and 28.0% lower than first quarter 2015. Production in the Western Region, which represented about 53.1% of total U.S. coal production in first quarter 2016, totaled about 91.8 million short tons (30.8% lower than first quarter 2015).
Coal Exports
EIA further says in its Quarterly Coal Report, the first quarter 2016 U.S. coal exports (14.2 million short tons) decreased 7.5% from fourth quarter 2015 and decreased 35.6% from first quarter 2015. Coal exports have declined for twelve quarters in a row. The average price of U.S. coal exports during the first quarter 2016 was $61.41 per short ton.
Coal Imports
The United States continued to import coal primarily from Colombia (81.2%), Canada (8.9%), and Indonesia (7.4%). U.S. coal imports in first quarter 2016 totaled 2.7 million short tons. The average price of U.S. coal imports during the first quarter 2016 was $63.97 per short ton.
