U.S WEEKLY COAL PRODUCTION UP MARGINALLY
.jpg) COALspot.com – U.S, world’s one of the largest coal producers has produced approximately totalled an estimated 13.4 million short tons (mmst) of coal in a week (For the week ended June 18, 2016), EIA said in its latest report.
According to EIA’s latest report, this production estimate is 3.2% higher than last week's estimate and 18.1% lower than the production estimate in the comparable week in 2015.
East of the Mississippi River produced totalled an estimated 5.1 mmst (up up 1.99% week over week) and west of the Mississippi River produced totalled an estimated 8.1 mmst (up 3.79% week over week), according to weekly figures released by the US Energy Information Agency (EIA), on June 23, 2016.
U.S. year-to-date (as of June 18, 2016) coal production totalled an estimated 302.9 mmst, 28.8% lower than the comparable year-to-date coal production in 2015. U.S. coal production during Q4'15 totalled 207.4 million short tons, 12.6% lower than the previous quarter and 18.2% lower than Q4' 14.
According to EIA's Quarterly Coal Report, Q4' 15 U.S. coal exports decreased 9.5% from third quarter 2015 and decreased 31.3% from fourth quarter 2014. Coal exports have declined for eleven quarters in a row. U.S shipped around 15.3 million short tons of coal in 4Q' 15 and the average price of U.S. coal exports during the Q4' 15 was $68.61 per short ton.
EIA further says in its Quarterly Coal Report, the United States continued to import coal primarily from Colombia (78.9%), Canada (12.6%), and Indonesia (4.4%). U.S's coal imports for Q4'15 declined to 2.7 million short tons from a 3.0 million short tons in Q3'15. The average price of U.S. coal imports during the fourth quarter 2015 was $70.48 per short ton.
