THE BDI HAS FELL 23 POINTS WEEK OVER WEEK
 COALspot.com: The Baltic Exchange, tracking rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities declined this past week. The BDI was fell 3.77 percent from last week and Cape Index was down around 7.85%.
The Baltic Dry Index (BDI) of dry-bulk shipping freights, a measure of global supply and demand for shipping of commodities was down week over week to 587 points on 17 June 2016. The index peaked at 11,793 in May 2008.
The Cape Index also declined 7.85% week over week or down 27 points. The BCI closed 927 points on 17 June 2016.
The Panamax index (BPI) was up slightly or up just 0.55% to 546 points while the Supramax index (BSI) was up 1.46% to 555 points on 17 June 2016, compared to 547 points on 10 June 2016.
Average daily earnings for Supramax, for the route Indonesia to India through Singapore, rated at around $ 6,500 per day this past week, while the Panamax vessels rated at around $ 4,500 per day delivery South China / Hong Kong range.
The freight rates are expected to be flat to firm this week.
The spot Cape’s average charter rates were reported at around US$ 6,533 per day and Panamax’s was reported at around US$ 4,361 per day. The Supramax’s average charters rates were at around $ 5,805 per day and Handysize ships were at $ 4,567 per day.
The futures for three years (2016-2018) for the ships were reported higher than the current spot rates the ship were earning. The Cape-size ships were at US$ 10,000 per day, Panamax at US$ 7,500 per day, Supramax at US$ 7,500 per day and Handysize at US$ 6,000 per day. No change from the previous week.
The S8 route for supramax moved up or increased by 2.16% week over week to $ 4,921 per day on Friday 17 June 2016 (S8 as on 10 June 2016 $ 4821 per day). Freight rates from Indonesia to India is expected to be flat to firm this week.
The Brent crude oil price was down 2.71 percent and closed at US$ 49.17 per barrel. The bunker prices up and closed at US$ 227.50 pmt (IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 17 June 2016).
