U.S COAL PRODUCTION FOR THE WEEK ENDED 14 MAY TOTALED 11.4 MMST; UP 3.8% W/W
 COALspot.com – U.S the world’s second largest coal producer has produced approximately totaled an estimated 11.4 million short tons (mmst) of coal in a week (For the week ended May 14, 2016), EIA said in its latest report.
According to EIA’s latest report, this production estimate is 3.8% higher than last week's estimate and 29.2% lower than the production estimate in the comparable week in 2015.
East of the Mississippi River produced totaled an estimated 4.3 mmst (up 2.38% week over week) and west of the Mississippi River produced totaled an estimated 7 mmst (up 1.44% week over week), according to weekly figures released by the US Energy Information Agency (EIA), on May 19, 2016.
U.S. year-to-date (as of May 14, 2016) coal production totaled an estimated 233.5 mmst, 32.8% lower than the comparable year-to-date coal production in 2015. While, U.S. coal production during Q4'15 totaled 207.4 million short tons, 12.6% lower than the previous quarter and 18.2% lower than Q4' 14.
According to EIA's Quarterly Coal Report, Q4' 15 U.S. coal exports decreased 9.5% from third quarter 2015 and decreased 31.3% from fourth quarter 2014. Coal exports have declined for eleven quarters in a row. U.S shipped around 15.3 million short tons of coal in 4Q' 15 and the average price of U.S. coal exports during the Q4' 15 was $68.61 per short ton.
EIA further says in its Quarterly Coal Report, the United States continued to import coal primarily from Colombia (78.9%), Canada (12.6%), and Indonesia (4.4%). U.S. coal imports in Q4' 15 declined to 2.7 million short tons from 3.0 million short tons in Q3' 15. The average price of U.S. coal imports during the fourth quarter 2015 was $70.48 per short ton.
