PRICES OF POWER-STATION COAL IN INDONESIA IS INCREASING
 COALspot.com: Inquiries for Indonesian 4200 - 4400 Kcal/kg GAR thermal coal cargoes from India suddenly increase recent days.
A Jakarta-based coal trader said he had seen numbers of inquiries from India from 4200 to 4400 GAR coal of Indonesian origin in recent days. However, availability of 4200 – 4400 GAR coal from Indonesia for spot shipments seems to be limited. According to him, the producers are offering 4200 – 4400 GAR coal for July 2016 delivery and May to June deliveries are almost sold-out.
The prices for Indonesian power-station coal also increased this week. According to CS (i) coal Index, the index was moving slightly upwards compared to previous days. The price gain may continue in coming weeks as Indian buyers step up purchases to increase stockpiles for the upcoming monsoon season, said a trader. Indian monsoon normally runs from June to September.
China is also looking for low sulfur and low ash coal from Indonesia and demand had increased significantly in recent weeks. According to a Singapore-based coal trader, China is buying significant quantities of low sulphur and low ash coal of Indonesian origin recent weeks. Requirements for ocean going ships also increased recent days, said a broker based in Singapore. Inquiries for ships from Indonesia to Philippines is also increased due banning of coal barges from Indonesia to Philippines due to security concern.
As of 27 April, CS (i) Coal Index for FOB Indonesia 5,700 kcal/kg GAR coal at US$ 47.77 a ton, up 3 cents and FOB Indonesia 5,000 kcal/kg GAR coal at US$ 38.76 a ton, up just a cent for the same period.
