PORT OF NEWCASTLE SHIPPED 12.78 MMT OF COAL IN FEBRUARY 2016
 COALspot.com: The Port of Newcastle, Australia’s major trading ports and the world’s largest coal export port has shipped AU$1,110.5 million worth of 12.785 million tons of coal for the month ended 29 February 2016. The based on available information, the average selling price for month February 2016 was at around average AU$ 86.85 per ton approximately 2.38 percent decline from January 2016 average selling price of $88.97 per ton.
According to Port’s monthly report, YTD (2016 calendar year to date), the port has shipped AU$2.136 billion worth of 24,719,873 tons of coal. The average selling price YTD is around average AU$ 86.44 per ton.
Port has shipped 7.12 percent more coal in February compared to its January 2016 loading of 11.934 million tons.
AU$1.110 billion trade value of coal shipped in February 2016 compared to $1.061 billion in January 2016.
According to operation report posted on port’s website, as of 29 February 2016, the port has served 143 (up 5.14% month on month) ocean going vessels in February and 279 vessels January – February 2016.
The port’s report further noted that, the Port of Newcastle has shipped coal to Australia, China, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Caledonia and Taiwan in the month of February 2016.
Anglo, Peabody, Rio Tinto and Xstrata are some of the larger coal exporters to ship coal from Newcastle port.
