Q2' 15 U.S. STEAM COAL EXPORTS TOTALED 7.0 MMST; DOWN 16.9% FROM Q1 2015 - EIA
 COALspot.com: U.S. coal production during second quarter 2015 totaled 211.1 million short tons.
According to EIA’s preliminary quarterly coal report, this coal production was 12.1% lower than the previous quarter and 14.1% lower than second quarter 2014. Production in the Western Region, which represented about 55.5% of total U.S. coal production in second quarter 2015, totaled about 117.3 million short tons (10.5% lower than second quarter 2014).
U.S coal exports also dropped around 10 percent in Q2 of 2015 from Q1’15. EIA’s report noted that, the second quarter 2015 U.S. coal exports (19.8 million short tons) dropped 10.1% from first quarter 2015 and dropped 19.9% from second quarter 2014. Coal exports from U.S have declined for nine quarters in a row. The average price of U.S. coal exports during the second quarter 2015 was $80.14 per short ton.
The United States continued to import coal primarily from Colombia (80.0%), Canada (12.3%), and Indonesia (6.2%).
U.S. coal imports in second quarter 2015 decreased to 2.6 million short tons from 3.0 million short tons in first quarter 2015. The average price of U.S. coal imports during the second quarter 2015 was $74.40 per short ton, up 0.64% from Q1’2015.
Steam coal exports totaled 7.0 million short tons (16.9% lower than first quarter 2015); metallurgical coal exports totaled 12.7 million short tons (5.8% lower than first quarter 2015). The average price of U.S. coal exports during the second quarter 2015 was $80.14 per short ton, down 2.32% from Q1’2015.
According to report, the second quarter 2015 U.S. coal exports to India dropped 11.67% from first quarter 2015 and rose 65.51% from second quarter 2014.
The first half 2015 India’s coal imports from U.S reached total 4.84 mmst (up 68.7%) compared to its imports H1 2014.
