THE LOW VESSEL DEMANDS PUSHED DOWN BALTIC DRY INDEX FURTHER DOWN
 COALspot.com: The low vessel demand across nearly all vessel sizes pushed the Baltic Exchange’s main sea freight index further down in this Friday.
The Baltic Exchange’s main sea freight index tracking rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities fell 7.28% week over week to 522 points on 11 December 2015.
The Cape index (BCI), which gauges the cost of shipping cargoes including iron ore, cement, grain, coal and fertiliser through Cape size ship, slipped 12.47% or 11 points week over week.
The Panamax index (BPI) fell 23 points, or 5.31%, to 410 points. The Panamax typically transport about 60,000 to 70,000 tonnes cargoes such as iron ore and coal.
The Supramax index dropped 23 points to 451 points, and the handy size index fell 23 points to 282 points.
The Supramax charter rates for Indonesia to India were rating around $ 6000-6500 per day delivery Singapore while the Panamax vessels were rating around $ 3000 per day delivery Shanghai, China.
The freight rates are expected to be soft next week.
The Cape average charter rates were reported at $5449 per day and Panamax was reported at $ 3275 per day. The Supramax average charter rates reported at $ 4713 per day and Handysize at $ 4136 per day.
The three years (2016-2018) future for the ships such as Cape, Panamax and Supramax were at around $ 10000, $ 7000 and $ 7000 per day respectively. The Handy size vessel was at $ 6500 per day almost same like Panamax and Supramax.
The S8 route for Supramax slightly up this week or up 5.50% to $ 5144 per day (last week $ 4876 per day). The freight rates from Indonesia to India are expected to be steady next week.
The Brent crude oil prices was soft and down by 11.79 pct closing at $ 37.93 per barrel (last week $ 43.00 per barrel). The bunker prices were also soft and closed at $ 187.00 pmt (IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 11th Dec 2015).
