THE OCEAN FREIGHT MARKET SHOWED STEADY THIS WEEK
 COALspot.com: The freight market was fairly steady this week. The BDI was up 2.93% to 597 points week over week. The cape index was also increased 14.16% week over week and closed at 532 points while the Panamax index was up 7 %. The supramax and handysize was slightly down closing at 619 points (down by 2.67 %) and 358 points (down by 7.25 %) respectively.
In the Far East/SE Asia, the freight rates were stable/soft with supramax charter rates for delivery Singapore was around US$ 8,000 per day for a trip via Indonesia to India. Panamax charter rates were steady and ships delivery Indonesia was fixed delivery China around US$ 5,000 per day for a trip to India. Freight rates next week expected to be steady.
The average charter rate for Cape reported at around US$ 3,464 per day, US$ 5,117 per day for Panamax, US$ 6471 per day for Supramax and US$ 5,335 per day for Handy size.
The futures for three years (2015-2017) was at around US$ 14000 per day for the Cape, US$ 9000 per day for Panamax, US$ 9000 per day for Supramax and US$ 8000 per day for Handy size.
The S8 route for supramax softened slightly and was down by 0.63 % closing at US$ 6409 per day (last week US$ 6450 per day). Freight rates from Indonesia to India is expected to be steady next week.
The Brent crude oil prices was firm and was up by 12.16 % closing at US$ 63.45 per barrel (last week US$ 56.57 per barrel). The bunker prices was firm and closed at US$ 347.50 pmt (IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 17th April 2015).
