DRY BULK MARKET CLOSED OFF ON THE GREEN FOR A SECOND WEEK IN A ROW - INTERMODAL
 COALspot.com: The Dry Bulk market closed off on the green for a second week in a row, while the performance of Capesizes hindered a more substantial BDI in-crease, as the segment witnessed further pressure last week. According to Intermodal, the smaller size segments are currently outperforming the non-geared sizes, while slightly improved sentiment for the former is probably going to support the market in the following days as well.
The Greece based ship broker further said that, the Capesize segment continued underperforming the rest of the market for yet another week, while as yesterday things kicked off equally slow for Capers we don’t see any meaningful positive reversal in the following days. At the same time news from the Far East are not hinting anything hopeful for the segment either. On one hand, China’s imports from Australia last month were unable to lift rates for the segment, despite the fact that they came in over 40% higher year over year and at the same time the Chinese target growth of 7% for this year is representative of the overall slowing down of the economy that has been acting as the faithful servant of Capes during the past years.
The broker further noted that, despite the uptick at the begging of last week in cargoes from East Coast South America, the volume of Panamax tonnage available has weighed down on rates for the segment, while the Atlantic Panamax business softened at the end of last week, with fresh inquiry scarce in both the USG and North Atlantic markets.
The Handy/Handymax/Supra market continued progressing last week, with positional rate increases in both basins improving sentiment overall, while we will most probably see some further upside in the following days.
