THE BALTIC DRY INDEX LOST ALMOST 3.2% OR 17 POINTS WEEK ON WEEK
 COALspot.com: The Baltic Dry Index, one of the economic indicators that monitors the health of the world's economy by tracking the price of shipping dry goods over oceans, has fallen to its lowest level in 29 years early this month.
On Friday, the index lost almost 3.2 per cent or 17 points to 513 points. That's down by 61.25 per cent since 21 November. While the cape index was down by 13.97 pct closing at 542 points.
The Panamax index was stabilized and slightly up by 3 pct closing at 514 points week over week. The Supramax index also up 10.09 pct to 480 points for the same period. The handy size index has remained same from last week or just up 2 points 270 points week ending 20 February 2015.
The freight rates in far east were steady and the supramax charter rates (delivery Singapore) were around US$ 5000-6000 per day for a trip via Indonesia to India. Panamax charter rates were also steady and ships delivery Indonesia was reportedly fixed at around US$ 5,000 per day for a trip to India. Freight rates expected to be steady on supramax vessels and Panamax vessels.
The average charter rate for Cape reported at US$ 4410 per day, for Panamax at around US$ 4110 per day, for Supramax at around US$ 5199 per day and Handysize at US$ 4040 per day.
Three years (2015-2017) future charter rate for Cape reported at US$ 14,000 per day, Panamax US$ 9,000 per day, Supramax at US$ 9,000 per day and Handy size at US$ 7500 per day.
The S8 route for supramax was fell 6.27 pct and closed at US$ 4,307 per day (last week US$ 4,625 per day). Freight rates from Indonesia to India is expected to be soft next week.
The Brent crude oil prices were down by 2.11 pct closing at US$ 60.22 per barrel (last week US$ 61.52 per barrel). The bunker prices were firm and closed at 385.00 Pmt (IFO 380 CST ex Singapore on 20th Feb 2015).
