COALspot.com: The Baltic Dry Index continues its decline and fell 5.18 pct to 530 points week on week due to falling commodity prices and declining import demand from China and particularly celebrations of Lunar New Year holidays next week. Most of the owners are hoping that the market would pick up after the Lunar New Year holidays and will have to wait to see how the market behaves.
In recent months, the dry bulk shipping industry is affected by numerous factors such as world economies’ slow growth and weak commodity demand. China’s economic growth rate impact dry bulk shipper’s movement as China is an important commodity market, which is the backbone of growth of shipping industry recent years. According to industry analysts, the world’s fleet of dry-bulk ships are far exceeding demand and estimated around 20% above demand over the past few years.
