PANAMAX MARKET MOVED SIDEWAYS OVERALL LAST WEEK - INTERMODAL
 COALspot.com: The positive sentiment in which the week prior ended carried on through-out last week as well, the end of which marked the first positive weekly closing for the Dry Bulk market since the end of November, said Intermodal in its latest weekly report.
The Greek based broker Intermodal, further noted that, the driving force behind the market’s revival was - what else? - the long awaited up-ward correction in the Capesize segment, which gave a very much needed breath to market players but has so far failed to overturn the negative sentiment that has persistently been reigning the market, especially as the rest of the rest of the segments resisted to the upward trend. Until a longer period of improved numbers is witnessed across the entire market, we remain skeptic as to whether the worst is behind us, while the upcoming Chinese holidays are also expected to slow things down.
Commented on Capes, broker said, rates for Capes jumped last week, while the average T/C for the segment jumped to above $7,000/day with the period market also noting increases across all contracts. Activity in the Atlantic basin was behind this boost, while things over in the Pacific were notably more quiet, with the rate for the W. Australia/ China route stubbornly stuck around the same low levels.
The Panamax market moved sideways overall last week, with talk of firmer enquiry positionally never materializing. The USG denied any upside as fresh business in the region remained limited, while things are not expected to improve this week either, commented on Panamax sector.
According to broker Intermodal, rates for both Supras and Handies lost further ground last week, while despite some better volumes of business in the USG the long list of bal-lasting Supras in the region denied any rate upside, with further discounts expected in the following days.
