BDI DECLINED 8% ON WEEK; BCI LOST 31%
 COALspot.com: The BDI continued its decline in the first week of this year or lost 8 pct week over week. The BDI was closed at 709 points while the cape index closed at 311 points after losing 31 pct week over week.
The Panamax index was also declined 7.6%. The panamax index was closed at 764 points on 9th Janaury 2014.
The Supramax and Handysize tonnage also lost some ground and the supramax and Handy size indices were fell 9 pct and closed at 800 points and 446 points respectively.
In the Far East/SE Asia the freight rates were soft and the supramax charter rates delivery Singapore were being rated around US$ 11,000 per day for a trip to India. In the meantime, Panamax charter rates were also soft and ships were reported fixed delivery Shanghai area around US$ 6,000 per day for a trip to India.
Freight rates are expected to be soft on supramax vessels and panamax vessels next week.
The average charter rate for Cape reported at around US$ 3,315 per day, Panamax at US$ 6,095 per day, Supramax at US$ 8,361 per day and Handy size at US$ 6,676 per day.
The future for three years (2015-2017) was reported at around US$ 14,000 per day for Cape, US$ 9,000 per day for Panamax, US$ 9,500 per day for Supramax and US$ 8,000 per day for Handymax.
The route S8 route for Supramax was lost 7.57 pct and closed at US$ 8,750 per day (last week US$ 9,467 per day). Freight rates from Indonesia to India is expected to be weak next week.
The Brent crude oil prices was sharply down by 11.18 pct week over week and closed at US$ 50.11 per barrel (last week US$ 56.42 per barrel). Bunker price the key cost component of shipping that averaged lower in January on year on year. The bunker price softened further week over week, IFO 380 cst ex Singapore closed at US$ 285.50 pmt on 9th Jan 2015, 28-Day spread $77.00.
