BALTIC DRY INDEX CONTINUES ITS DECLINE IN 2015
Wish you all a very Happy New Year 2015. The last report was dated 19th Dec 2014 and due to Christmas and new year holidays no reports were published last week - Vistaar India.
COALspot.com: The Baltic Dry Index is a daily average of prices to ship raw materials was down by 3.98 pct closing at 771 points week on week and 1.40 percent day on day and BDI lost the first day of this year or almost reaching levels of 2008.
The cape index was also soft and was down by 6.55 pct closing at 456 points week over week while the panamax index was down by 8.82 pct closing at 827 points for the same period. The supramax index and Handy size index was also soft and closed at 84 points (down by 3.6 pct) and 488 points (down by 1.81 pct).
In the Far East/SE Asia, the freight rates were fairly steady and the supramax charter rates delivery Singapore were being rated around US$ 12,500-13,000 per day for a trip to India. Panamax charter rates were soft and ships were reported fixed (delivery Shanghai area) at around US$ 6,500 per day for trip to India. Freight rates are expected to be steady for the supramax vessels and soft for panamax vessels next week.
The average charter rates were reported for Cape at around US$ 3,580 per day , Panamax at US$ 6,591 per day , Supramax at US$ 9,239 per day and Handy size at US$ 7239 per day.
The futures for three years (2015-2017) was at around Cape/US$ 14,000 per day, Panamax/US$ 9,000 per day, Supramax/US$ 9,500 per day , Handy size/US$ 8,500 per day.
The route S8 route for Supramax was slightly down by 4.34 pct closing at US$ 9,467 per day (last week US$ 9,897 per day). Freight rates from Indonesia to India is expected to be steady next week.
The Brent crude oil prices was sharply down by 8.08 pct closing at US$ 56.42 per barrel (last week US$ 61.38 per barrel). The bunker prices also softened and closed at US$ 315.00 pmt (IFO 380 CST ex Singapore on 2nd Jan 2015).
