SHIPOWNERS ARE FINALIZING MORE DEALS AS YEAR END COMES CLOSER - NIKOS ROUSSANOGLOU, HELLENIC SHIPPING NEWS WORLDWIDE
With the 2014 year just a few days before waving goodbye, shipowners are looking to close their pending deals in both the newbuilding and S&P markets. According to the latest weekly report from shipbroker Clarkson Hellas, “this week in dry, Clients of Pacific Carriers Limited, Singapore are reported to have ordered a second 37,300 DWT Bulker at Shimanami Shipbuilding in Japan. Pricing and delivery are not disclosed; however delivery of the initial order is planned for the first quarter of 2015. It is also understood that Clients of ID Shipping have ordered one firm 38,000 DWT Bulker at Imabari Shipbuilding, which will be the third vessel in their fleet built from Imabari”.
Clarkson Hellas also added that there was “a number of orders to report in tankers, starting with three firm (plus two option) 158,500 DWT Suezmax from Clients led by Tulshyan Group (Singapore) at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding. The firm vessels will be delivered throughout the fourth quarter of 2016 and the first half of 2017, and the optional vessels are set to be delivered later in 2017 if declared. Sonangol have contracted two firm plus two optional 156,290 DWT Suezmax at DSME. These vessels will be delivered throughout 2017 from DSME’s Korean facilities in Okpo. China Merchants Group declared one further option of 319,000 DWT VLCC at Dalian Shipbuilding for delivery in 2017, taking their total series on order to eight vessels. Although the contracts were signed last month, it has come to light this week that Huangpu Wenchong have contracted two firm plus two optional 12,800 DWT Asphalt & Bitumen Carriers with Tianjin Southwest Maritime. The firm units are due for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2016 and the optional units will be delivered within 2017. STX Offshore & Shipbuilding have announced contracting four firm 74,000 DWT LR1 with BW Pacific for delivery in 2016 and 2017. It is understood that there are six further options all due for delivery in 2017″, it noted.
Finally, Clarkson Hellas mentioned that “in gas, DSME have signed six firm 174,000 CBM LNG Carriers with BP Shipping. These vessels are set to be delivered from 2018 onwards until the first quarter of 2019 from Okpo. In addition to this order, DSME have an additional 33 LNG Carriers on order. In other sectors, BigRoll have declared an option for further one 21,000 DWT Transport / Heavy Lift vessel at COSCO Dalian for delivery in the first quarter in 2017, which will be the fourth vessel in the series. Carnival Cruise Lines have added one 135,000 GT Cruise Ship at Fincantieri’s Malfacone yard for delivery in the first quarter of 2018, while Holland America Line have also added one 99,000 GT Cruise Ship at Fincantieri’s Marghera yard for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2018. Both vessels will be the 2nd units in each series”.
Meanwhile, last week was another relatively quiet week in the newbuilding market, with just one new order to report in dry, Clarkson Hellas had noted. According to the shipbroker’s report, “it is understood that Vogemann have contracted four firm, plus two optional 38,000 DWT Handysize Bulkers at AVIC Weihai Shipyard in China. The firm vessels will be delivered throughout the second half of 2016 and the first quarter of 2017, and the optional vessels are set to be delivered later in 2017, if declared. Vogemann already have six 36,700 DWT Handysize Bulkers on order at Weihai Samjin, and the new orders are understood to be the replacement for these. There are thirteen more Handysize Bulkers in AVIC Weihai’s orderbook, for a number of overseas clients.
In tankers, Keo Young Shipping have placed an order at Nakatani Shipbuilding of Japan for two firm 1,800 DWT Chemical Tankers with delivery in 2016. Based in South Korea, Keo Young Shipping currently have sixteen Chemical / Product Carriers in their fleet. Apart from these orders, Nakatani have one 3,600 DWT Asphalt / Bitumen Carrier and one 6,300 DWT MPP on order. There are two new reported orders in the gas sector, with K-Line announcing their second order of 164,700 CBM LNG Carrier at Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI). This vessel will be delivered within the fourth quarter of 2016 from KHI’s Sakaide yard. K-Line also have one 182,000 CBM LNG Carrier on order at KHI for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2016. Additionally, it is understood that Teekay have declared options for three further 173,400 CBM LNG Carriers at DSME all due to deliver in 2018″, Clarkson Hellas concluded.
