CAPE'S STRONG PERFORMANCE PUSHES BDI INDEX UPWARDS
 COALspot.com: The BDI was up by 26.27 pct and closed at 1192 points week and week. The Cape size performance has pushed up BDI and Cape size index was up 77.82 pct and closed at 2422 for the same period.
In the meantime, the Panamax index was also up 16.04 pct and closed at 1121 points. However, the Supramax and Handysize indices were down by about 2 pct closing at 900 points and 489 points respectively.
According to Vistaar Shipping, the freight rates were steady in the Feast/Se Asia sector and the supramax charter rates, delivery Singapore was reported at around US$ 11,000 per day.
The Panamax charter rates were also steady for this week. Freight rates are expected to be continually steady next week.
The cape size charter rates were almost double as compared to last week closing and the average charter rates were reported at US$ 16,111 per day (last week it was just at US$ 8,308 per day), due to strong demand of iron ore to China, Vistaar’s Director Capt. Reddy said.
The average charter rate for Cape reported at US$ 16,111 per day , Panamax at US$ 8,971 per day , Supramax at US$ 9,412 per day and Handy size at US$ 7,153 per day.
According to Vistaar India, the futures for three years (2015-2017) were at around Cape/US$ 17,500 per day, Panamax/US$ 10,000 per day, Supramax/US$ 10,500 per day and Handysize/US$ 9,000 per day.
The route S8 route for supramax was down by 1.53 pct closing at US$ 7448 per day (last week US$ 7564 per day), said Vistaar.
Visstar is expected the freight rates from Indonesia to India will be soft next week.
The Brent crude oil prices was soft and was at same levels closing at US$ 86.13 per barrel (last week US$ 86.16 per barrel). The bunker prices softened closing at US$ 473.00 pmt (IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 24th Oct 2014).
