NEWCASTLE SHIPPED 13.96 MILLION TONS OF COAL IN SEPTEMBER; UP 5.72%
 COALspot.com: The Port of Newcastle, Australia’s major trading ports and the world’s largest coal export port, has shipped $1,227.7 worth of 13,963,286 tons of coal for the month ended 30 September 2014. The based on available information, the average selling price was around US$ 87.87 per mt in September 2014 down approximately 1.39% from August average selling price of US$ 89.11 per MT.
According to Port’s monthly report, YTD (2014 calendar year to date), the port has shipped $10.26 billion worth of 116.71 million tons of coal. The average selling price YTD is around US$ 87.91per MT. Port has shipped 5.72% more coal compared to August exports.
$1.22 billion trade value of coal shipped in September.
According to operation report posted on port’s website, as of 30 September 2014, the port has served 157 (up 9.79%) ocean going vessels in September and 1,254 vessels January – September this year.
The port’s report further said, Port of Newcastle shipped coal to Australia, China, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Caledonia and Taiwan during September 2014.
Anglo, Peabody, Rio Tinto and Xstrata are some of the larger coal exporters to ship coal from Newcastle port.
The Port of Newcastle is the largest bulk shipping port on the east coast of Australia and the world’s leading coal export port. On 30 May 2014, Port of Newcastle Investments (trading as Port of Newcastle) commenced a 98-year lease of the Port of Newcastle with the New South Wales Government.
According to company’s website, port’s world-class infrastructure supports the import and export of more than 40 commodities through the port. In 2012-13, the port handled 148.8 million tonnes in trade throughput, with a value of approximately $19 billion.
The principal trade at the Port of Newcastle is coal.
