NEWCASTLE COAL SWAP FOR Q1' 2015 DELIVERY CLOSED AT US$ 54.92, SGX DATA SHOWS
 COALspot.com: API 5 FOB Newcastle Coal swap for delivery Q4' 2014 decreased US$ 0.80 (-1.46%) month over month and US$ 0.52 (-0.95%) week over week.
API 5 FOB Newcastle Coal swap
Newcastle Coal swap for Q4'14 delivery lost US$ 0.52 per mt week on week on 10 October and closed at US$ 54.05 a ton. The swap for Q1' 2015 delivery also lost on day, week and on month according to SGX AsiaClear OTC coal swap's reports released week ended 10 October 2014.
API 5 FOB Newcastle Coal swap closed average US$ 54.05 per MT for Q4 '14 delivery, average US$ 54.92 per MT for Q1 '15 delivery and average US$ 57.20 per MT for Q4 '15 delivery.
Q1' 2015 delivery swap closed at US$ 57.20 a ton on 10 October 2014, a US$ 0.58 (-1.05%) lower from a month. Q4' 15 delivery swap also lost US$ 0.60 from day and closed at US$ 68.30 per mt.
Newcastle Coal swap for Q4' 2015 delivery was lost day on day. Q1' 2015 delivery swap closed at US$ 54.92 pmt on 10 October 2014, a $ 0.87 (+1.61%) higher compared to Q4' 2014 closing price of US$ 54.05 for the same period.
In the meantime, Newcastle Coal swap for average Q4' 2015 delivery closed US$ 3.15 (+5.83%) higher compared to average Q4' 2014 delivery price of US$ 54.05 on 10 October 2014.
According to this past week's Newcastle Coal swaps trend Q1' 2015 coal swaps gained narrowly compared to Q4' 2014 closing. However Q4' 2015 closing swap was quite significant or higher by US$ 3.15 per MT compared to Q4' 2014 closing prices.
Indonesia, as the largest coal exporter and China is a net coal importer is trying to introduce number of regulations to cut coal exports and imports respectively. China is to re-introduce 6% import duty for thermal coal soon.
According to Tim Buckley, Director of Energy Finance Studies, Australasia, for the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA), China’s unexpected move to reintroduce thermal coal import tariffs of 6% will have a materially negative impact on the viability of the Australian coal export industry.
In addition to that, China is also to introduce restriction on import of high Ash and high sulphur coal.
According to Wood Mackenzie, the Chinese upcoming the quality restrictions to apply both imported and domestic coal and therefore will increase demand for imported coal because imported coal is generally lower ash and sulphur than domestic coal.
Indonesian exports are generally low sulphur and ash and consequently will stand to benefit from the ban.
Newcastle Coal swap for Q4' 2014 delivery, according to SGX, was achieved a highest price (US$ 54.78) on 8&9 October 2014, and swap experienced a lowest closing (US$ 54.05) on 10 October 2014.
API 5 FOB Newcastle Coal swap for delivery Q4' 2014 and Q1 & Q4' 2015 was lost day, week and on month.
