CAPE INDEX LOST 17% W-O-W ; BALTIC DRY PLUNGES 106 POINTS
 COALspot.com: This week the freight market softened a bit compared to last week.
BDI fell 8.97% week on week and closed BDI at 1075 points on Friday as the capesize segment incurred more losses. The capesizes experiencing major downsides or lost 17.00% and closed at 2112 points.
The Panamax index also followed capesize direction and lost 7.00%. Panamax Index was closed at 814 points compared to last week closing of 875 points. The supramax and handy size indices were however, up slightly week on week and closed at 1029 points and 498 points respectively.
In the Far East/SE Asia, the coal shipments were steady and the freight rates were also firm on Supramax and Panamax. Larger supramax vessels were rating around US$ 12,000 per day passing Singapore. Freight rates are still expected to be steady for next few weeks.
The average charter rates for Cape at US$ 13,823 per day, Panamax at US$ 6,527 per day, Supramax at US$ 10,764 per day and Handy size at US$ 7,320 per day.
The futures for three years (2015-2017) were around US$ 19,000 per day capes, US$ 10,500 per day for Panamaxes, US$ 11,000 per day for Supramaxes and US$ 9,500 per day for handy size vessels.
The route S8 route for supramax was slightly up and closed at US$ 8,617 per day (last week US$ 8561 per day) after gaining 0.65% week on week. Freight rates from Indonesia to India is expected to be steady next week.
The Brent crude oil prices was almost at same levels closing at US$ 97.70 per barrel (last week US$ 97.11 per barrel). The bunker prices softened closing at US$ 570.00 pmt (IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 19th Sept 2014).
