COAL FREIGHT RATES INTO INDIA FROM INDONESIA FIRM
 COALspot.com: The freight market continued to firm this week. BDI up 5.42 percent week ended 29 August and closed at 1147 points while the Cape index was up 3.63 percent for the same period. Cape index was closed at 2627 points.
The Baltic Dry Index is a composite of three sub-indexes that measure different sizes of dry bulk carriers (merchant ships) - Capesize, Supramax and Panamax. Multiple geographic routes are evaluated for each index to give depth to the index's composite measurement.
According to Vistaar shipping, the cape index will continue is journey heading to North direction due to increased of iron ore shipments to China from south America.
The Panamax index was up 7.26 percent week on week and closed at 970 points on 29 August 2014 and the Supramax index was increased 3.52 percent. The Supramax index was closed at 970 points while Handy size index was closed at 442 points after up 7.02 percent week on week.
In the Far East/SE Asia, the coal shipments were steady and the freight rates were also up for Supramax and Panamax. Freight rates are expected to be firm for next few weeks, said Capt. Reddy of Vistaar Shipping.
The average charter rate for Cape at US$ 16,877 per day , for Panamax at US$ 6,941 per day , for Supramax at US$ 10,140 per day and for Handy size for US$ 6,521 per day.
The futures for three years (2015-2017) were at around US$ 20,000 per day for cape size vessel, US$ 11,000 per day for Panamax, US$ 11,500 per day for Supramax and US$ 9,500 per day for Handy size.
The route S8 route for Supramax slightly firmed up and was up 5.91 percent closed at US$ 7,467 per day (last week US$ 7050 per day) week on week. Freight rates from Indonesia to India is expected to be firm next week.
The Brent crude oil prices was almost at same levels as last week up by 0.88 pct at closing at US$ 103.19 per barrel (last week US$ 102.29 per barrel). The bunker prices remained steady closing at US$ 591.00 pmt (IFO 380 CST ex Singapore on 29th Aug 2014).
