SEA FREIGHT MARKETS STARTING TO LOOK POSITIVE; CAPES DRIVE FREIGHTS HIGHER
 COALspot.com: The freight market has strengthen further this week with BDI up 7.19 pct week on week. The BDI was closed at 1,088 points while the Baltic cape index was up by 15.14 pct and closed at 2,525 points.
The cape index expected to be remain firm coming weeks because of increased iron ore shipments to China.
The Panamax index was slightly up or just increased 1.12 pct week on week closed at 812 points on 22 August 2014. The Supramax index was up 6.84 pct closed at 937 points. The Handy size was also up by 8.11 pct closing at 413 points.
“ In the Far East/SE Asia, the coal shipments were steady and the freight rates were up for Supramax and Panamax vessels. The current trend is expected to be continued for next few weeks.” According to Vistaar Shipping.
The average charter rates were reported at US$ 16,031 per day for cape vessels, US$ 6467 per day Panamax vessels, US$ 9797 per day for supramax vessels and Handy size vessels reported at US$ 6120 per day.
In the meantime, the futures for three years (2015-2017) were reported at around US$ 20000 per day for Cape vessels, US$ 11,000 per day for Panamax vessels, US$ 11,500 per day Supramax vessels and Handy size vessels reported around US$ 9,500 per day.
The route S8 route for supramax slightly firmer and it was up 1.61 pct and closed at US$ 7,050 per day (last week US$ 6,664 per day). Freight rates from Indonesia to India is expected to be firm next week.
The Brent crude oil prices was down by 1.49 pct at same levels as last week closing at US$ 102.29 per barrel (last week US$ 103.53 per barrel).
The bunker prices remained steady closing at US$ 588.00 pmt (IFO 380 CST ex. Singapore on 22nd August 2014).
