HIGH DEMAND OF IRON ORE SHIPMENTS PUSHED CAPE INDEX UPWARDS
 COALspot.com: This week's freight market was buoyant with Cape and panamax index seeing a big jump pushing the BDI above 1,000 points week on closing at 1,015 points or up by 30.46 pct from last Friday.
The Cape index saw one of the highest gains in one week up by 84 .47 pct closing at 2,151 points. The high demand for Iron ore shipments contributed greatly for the increase of Cape index this week.
Panamax index also saw a significant gains this week or increased 28.68 pct and closed at 803 points.
The supramax index was up 10.44 pct week on week and closed at 877 points while the handy size index was up 5.23 pct for the same period and closed at 382 points.
Overall the sentiments seems to be positive and expect the charter rates to be firm next couple of weeks.
In the Far East/SE Asia the coal shipments were steady and the freight rates were up on Supramax and Panamax. Freight rates are expected to be firm for next few weeks.
The average charter rates was at Cape/US$ 14,391 per day , Panamax/US$ 6,397 per day , Supramax/US$ 9,170 per day and Handy size/US$ 5,663 per day.
The futures for three years (2015-2017) was at around Cape/US$ 20,000 per day, Panamax/US$ 11,000 per day, Supramax/US$ 11,500 per day , Handy size/US$ 9,500 per day.
The route S8 route for supramax slightly firmed up and was up by 1.61 pct closing at US$ 6,664 per day (last week US$ 6,558 per day). Freight rates from Indonesia to India is expected to be firm next week.
The Brent crude oil prices was sown by 1.49 pct at same levels as last week closing at US$ 103.53 per barrel (last week US$ 105.02 per barrel). The bunker prices also remained soft closing at US$ 588.00 pmt (IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 15th Aug 2014).
