PORT OF NEWCASTLE SHIPPED 19.52% MORE COAL IN JULY FROM LAST MONTH
COALspot.com: The Port of Newcastle, Australia’s major trading ports and the world’s largest coal export port, has shipped 14,036,947 tons of coal for the month ended 31 July 2014. According to Port’s monthly report, YTD (2014 calendar year to date), the port has shipped $8.08 billion worth of 89,273,383 tons of coal. Port has shipped 19.52% more coal compared to June exports.
$1.27 billion trade value of coal shipped in July.
According to operation report posted on port’s website, as of 31 July 2014, the port has served 155 (up 22.04%) ocean going vessels in July and 952 vessels January – June this year.
The port’s report further said, Port of Newcastle shipped coal to Australia, China, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Caledonia and Taiwan during July 2014.
Anglo, Peabody, Rio Tinto and Xstrata are some of the larger coal exporters to ship coal from Newcastle port.
The Port of Newcastle is the largest bulk shipping port on the east coast of Australia and the world’s leading coal export port. On 30 May 2014, Port of Newcastle Investments (trading as Port of Newcastle) commenced a 98-year lease of the Port of Newcastle with the New South Wales Government.
According to company’s website, port’s world-class port infrastructure supports the import and export of more than 40 commodities through the port. In 2012-13, the port handled 148.8 million tonnes in trade throughput, with a value of approximately $19 billion.
The principal trade at the Port of Newcastle is coal.
