RAMADAN HOLIDAYS IN INDONESIA PUTTING PRESSURE ON CHARTER RATES FROM INDONESIA - VISTAAR INDIA
 COALspot.com: The freight rates were almost steady as very slight improvement in BDI by about 1 pct. The BDI was at 739 points after improving from 732 last week closing.
The cape size index was down by 3.4 pct and index was closed at 1193 points week on week.
The panamax and supramax were up about 3 pct closed at 606 points and 679 points respectively.
The handy size index continued to weak and was down this week by 4.03 pct closed at 357 points. The index probably has bottomed out and may see some gains in the coming weeks, said Capt. Reddy of Vistaar India.
In the Far East/SE Asia, there were few stems only from Indonesia due to Ramadan period and with EID Holidays putting pressure on charter rates, Reddy added.
Supramax vessels passing Singapore were rating around US$ 7,000-8,000 per day. Panamax freights rates was soft with owners asking around US$ 5,000 delivery S. China for trip via Indonesia to India. Freight rates are expected to be flat to soft next week.
The average charter rates was at Cape/US$ 8,621 per day , Panamax/US$ 4,831 per day , Supramax/US$ 7,097 per day and Handy size/US$ 5,383 per day.
The futures for three years (2015-2017) were at around Cape/US$ 19,000 per day, Panamax/US$ 10,500 per day, Supramax/US$ 10,500 per day , Handy size/US$ 9,000 per day.
The route S8 route for Supramax was soft and was down by 5.32 pct closing at US$ 6,633 per day (last week US$ 7,006 per day). Freight rates from Indonesia to India is expected to be flat to soft.
The Brent crude oil prices slightly firmed up and was up by 0.54 pct closing at US$ 108.39 per barrel (last week US$ 107.24 per barrel). The bunker prices also firmed up slightly and closed at US$ 600.50 pmt (IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 18th July 2014).
