THE FREIGHT MARKET CONTINUED ITS DOWNWARD TREND
 COALspot.com: The market continued its downward trend this week as all segments were down compared to last week. The Cape and Panamax indices being affected the most.
The BDI was down by 10.07 pct and closed at 732 points week ended 18 July 2014. According to Capt. Reddy of Vistaar India BD has reached almost its lowest levels. The Cape index was lost 15.70 pct and the meantime, the Panamax index was down 15.87 pct week on week.
The supramax index was also lost 2.94 pct and closed at 659 points and the handy size index was lost 4.61 pct.
In the Far East/SE Asia, there were few stems from Indonesia. Supramax vessels passing Singapore were rating around US$ 9,000 per day. Panamax freights rates was soft with owners asking around US$ 5,000 delivery South China for trip via Indonesia to India.
The average charter rates were at Cape/US$ 8,648 per day , Panamax/US$ 4,681 per day , Supramax/US$ 6,886 per day and Handy size/US$ 5,599 per day.
The futures for three years (2015-2017) were at around Cape/US$ 19,000 per day, Panamax/US$ 10,500 per day, Supramax/US$ 10,500 per day and Handy size/US$ 9,000 per day.
The route S8 route for supramax was soft and was down by 7.17 pct closing at US$ 7,006 per day (last week US$ 7,547 per day). Freight rates from Indonesia to India is expected to be soft to flat.
The Brent crude oil prices slightly firmed up and was up by 0.54 pct closing at US$ 107.24 per barrel (last week US$ 106.66 per barrel). The bunker prices also firmed up slightly and closed at US$ 600.50 pmt (IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 18th July 2014).
