PANAMAX INDEX GAINS SLIGHTLY THIS WEEK; CAPE INDEX FALLS ALMOST 21.40%
 COALspot.com: This week the freight market fell again after gaining last week. The cape index was down almost 21.40 pct and closed at 1465 points.
The Baltic Dry Index is a composite of three sub-indexes that measure different sizes of dry bulk carriers (merchant ships) - Capesize, Supramax and Panamax issued daily by the London-based Baltic Exchange was down by 8.85 pct and closed at 814 points week ended 11 July 2014.
However, the Panamax index gains slightly up this week or up 6.09 pct closed at 679 points. Owners are holding their panamax vessels for a better opportunity. The Supramax index was almost at the same levels of last week closing. Handy size index was lost 3.22 pct and closed at 390 points for the same period.
In the Far East/SE Asia the charter rates on supramax was under pressure and vessels were rating around US$ 10,000 passing Singapore. Panamax freights rates were up with owners asking around US$ 6,000 for Indonesia to India. Freight rates are expected to be flat to soft next week.
The average charter rates were at Cape/US$ 10,252 per day , Panamax/US$ 5,432 per day , Supramax/US$ 7,099 per day and Handy size/US$ 5,837 per day.
The futures for three years (2015-2017) was at around Cape/US$ 20,000 per day, Panamax/US$ 10,500 per day, Supramax/US$ 10,500 per day , Handy size/US$ 10,000 per day.
The route S8 route was soft and was down by 1.07 pct closing at US$ 7,547 per day (last week US$ 7,467 per day). Freight rates from Indonesia to India is expected to be flat to steady.
The Brent crude oil prices slightly softened and was down by 3.60 pct closing at US$ 106.66 per barrel (last week US$ 110.64 per barrel). The bunker prices also closed lower at US$ 595.00 pmt (IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 11th July 2014).
