RBCT, THE WORLD'S SINGLE LARGEST EXPORT COAL TERMINAL SHIPPED 31.91 MMT OF COAL IN H1 2014
 COALspot.com: South Africa's Richards Bay Coal Terminal (RBCT) the world’s single largest export coal terminal, shipped 31.91 million tons of coal for the first half of this year, down 3.41% from the same period last year, according to latest data released by Richards Bay Coal Terminal. Richards Bay shipped 33.04 tons of coal for the first half of 2013, the terminal reported.
Year-to-date coal exports at Richards Bay, which has a design capacity of 91 million tons per year, totaled 31.91 tonnes a operation statistic of terminal said. Approximately 22.37 million tons coal or 70.10% of total exports shipped to Asian countries.
First half this year, southern Asian countries have imported the largest share of Richards Bay exports, taking in 45.50% of the total coal shipped from the terminal. Markets in South eastern Asia accounted for 2.4% of the volume for the same period. Western Asia imported around 9% of volume shipped from RBCT in first 6 months in 2014, port’s operating statistics shows. In the meantime, Europe imported around 22.4% of volume shipped from RBCT in first half of this year. 5.8% of volume goes to African countries and South America accounted for 1.1% of the volume for the same period.
70.10% of total coal exports from RBCT or approximately 22.377 tons of coal shipped to south-eastern Asia, western Asia and southern Asia in first half of 2014.
Total shipments to Europe represented 22.9% (Western Europe 18.9%, Northern Europe 0.2% & Southern Europe 3.8%) of the total exports in first six months in 2014.
326 vessels, including 191 Cape size vessels, 54 Panamaxes and 81 Handy size vessels entered the coal terminal in first six months of this year.
South Africa produced high calorific value coal and one of the favoring coal supplier for Europe as well as Asia particularly India.
