PANAMAX : THIS WEEK STARTED IN A SLOW PACE - FEARNLEYS

After last week's silent and unexciting week we see some more activity this week, especially from the South American market. The rates are for TA´s up around Usd 1,700 w-o-w, however USG/Med with scrap has been concluded at a low US$ 8k. Even though new cargoes appear the market seems to be affected by market participant being away attending coaltrans in Bali and Posidonia in Greece this week. Hopefully we will see next week bringing some more pressure and rates achieving decent levels again. Indonesia / India rounds are being concluded in region of Usd 8k while a better 9k has been done for 2 legs bss delivery Indonesia. The period market is silent due to the major difference in bid/ask.
Panamax
This week started in a slow pace, little new requirements in Atlantic and an increasing number of open vessels. Pacific is also slow activity but slightly better than Atlantic. Week also influenced by Posidonia in Athens. Atlantic rounds pending around 4-5 k while pacific still in the 6-6.5k. Despite cape got an upsving mid week this did not had much positive impact on panamax unfortunately. A few fronthaul where covered in the 14k + 400.000. Limited period concluded this week but panamax reported from 10,500 -11,000 for about 1 year.
Capesize
Mixed sentiments - the past week as we have seen holidays in the east and Posidonia in Greece still going. Volumes maintained at healthy levels whilst rates overall have been flat, leaving the 180,000-tonners standard unchanged w-o-w. The Atlantic has seen the bigger improvements with the front hauls strengthen over 10% whilst the Waust/China trade broke $8 mark only to come back and at time of writing trading in the higher $7, giving a large discrepancy on the TC equivalents with standard candidates showing around $13,000 and $8,000 respectively. The period market has been more active with short period concluded around 20k, whilst one year contracts has been concluded around 23/24k, seeing some improvements on the FFA for remaining part of this year.
