PORT OF NEWCASTLE SHIPPED 19.13% LESS COAL THIS PAST WEEK
COALspot.com: In the week ended 07:00 hours 26 May 2014, power plant and semi-soft coking coal shipments from the port of Newcastle in Queensland, total 2.79 million tons.
The Port of Newcastle is the economic and trade centre for the resource rich Hunter Valley and for much of the north and northwest of NSW. It is Australia's oldest and one of the largest tonnage throughput ports, with coal exports representing more than 90% of total throughput tonnage.
The figure constitutes a 19.13 percent lower compared to the previous week, following a week on week increased of 39.11 percent recorded in the week ended 19 May 2014. Around 2.79 million mt for the week ended 26 May 2014 were loaded on to 29 ocean-going ships (the previous week 32 vessels served), said Newcastle Port Corp in its latest weekly update.
According to port's weekly report, the port has shipped 2,795,496 tons of coal for the week ended 0700 hours 26 May 2014, which was 19.13 percent lower compared to a week ago loaded quantity. The port’s report indicates that, the port has loaded totaled 10,081,729 MT of coal as of 26 May for this month.
According to operation report posted on port’s website, as of 0700 hours 26 May 2014, there is 1 vessel off the port waiting to load, and three vessels with Notified Arrival Time (NAT) allocated and in transit and 7 vessels were in the port of loading.
Anglo, Peabody, Rio Tinto and Xstrata are some of the larger coal exporters to ship coal from Newcastle port.
Average Waiting Time for Vessel
29 coal vessels entered port to load coal during the week, and average waiting time was around 0.41 days (waiting time for loading down by 86.37% week on week), said NPC in its latest coal shipments report.
NPC has forecasted to load around 13.34 million mt of coal in May 2014. The port has already shipped 10.08 Mmt or 75.53% of coal until 26 May 2014.
