INDONESIA TO INDIA FREIGHT RATES ARE SHOWING POSITIVE TREND
COALspot.com: The freight market is seems to be some recovery as cape index has increased by 7.84 pct week on week. Cape index closed at 1829 points week ended 2 May 2014. The BDI was also up by 4.92 pct and closed at 1017 points for the same period. All other sectors Panamax , Supramax and Handysize were almost at same levels as last week.
In the Far East/SE Asia the charter rates on supramax continued to be soft and most vessels were rating around US$ 14,000 per day passing Singapore, but charterers were rating lower. Panamax rates was also continued to soft direction as owners rating around US$ 9,000 per day delivery South China. However, freight rates are expected to be steady/firm next week.
The average charter rates was at Cape/US$ 11,744 per day , Panamax/US$ 6,950 per day , Supramax/US$ 9,568 per day and Handy size/US$ 7,584 per day.
The futures for three years (2014-2016) was at around Cape/US$ 23,000 per day, Panamax/US$ 12,500 per day, Supramax/US$ 12,500 per day , Handy size/US$ 10,000 per day.
The route S8 route was steady and was slightly up or up 1.40 pct week on week closed at US$ 9,725 per day (last week US$ 9,591 per day ). Freight rates from Indonesia to India is expected to be firm.
The Brent crude oil prices was soft and closed at US$ 108.59 per barrel (last week US$ 109.58 per barrel). The bunker prices was also soft and closed at 586.00 pmt (IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 2nd May 2014).
