NEWCASTLE SHIPPED 3.03 MILLION TONS WEEK ON WEEK
 COALspot.com: In the week ended 07:00 hours 28 April 2014, power plant and semi-soft coking coal shipments from the port of Newcastle in Queensland, total 3.03 million tons.
The Port of Newcastle is the economic and trade centre for the resource rich Hunter Valley and for much of the north and northwest of NSW. It is Australia's oldest and one of the largest tonnage throughput ports, with coal exports representing more than 90% of total throughput tonnage.
The figure constitutes a 16.53 percent higher compared to the previous week, following a week on week decreased of 13.33 percent recorded in the week ended 21 April 2014. Around 3.03 million mt for the week ended 28 April 2014 were loaded on to 33 ocean-going ships (the previous week 30 vessels served), said Newcastle Port Corp in its latest weekly update.
According to port's weekly report, the port has shipped 3,035,507 tons of coal for the week ended 0700 hours 28 April 2014, which is 16.53 percent higher compared to a week ago loaded quantity. The port’s report indicates that, the port has loaded totalled 11,136,919 MT of coal as of 28 April for this month.
According to operation report posted on port’s website, as of 0700 hours 29 April 2014, there are 4 vessels off the port waiting to load, and 27 vessels with Notified Arrival Time (NAT) allocated and in transit and 7 vessels were in the port of loading.
Anglo, Peabody, Rio Tinto and Xstrata are some of the larger coal exporters to ship coal from Newcastle port.
Average Waiting Time for Vessel
33 coal vessels entered port to load coal during the week, and average waiting time was around 0.88 days (waiting time for loading up by 46.59% week on week), said NPC in its latest coal shipments report.
NPC has forecasted to load around 12.49 million mt of coal in April 2014 and 11.13 mt or 89.15% coal already shipped until 28 April 2014.
