FREIGHT RATES END WEEK ON WEAK NOTE - VISTAAR
Wish you all Happy Easter.
The freight market continued to its downwards as BDI was fell 7.187 percent to 930 points week on week.
The cape size index also followed BDI and closed at 1591 after losing 11.06 percent week on week. The Panamax index seemed to have bottomed out and was slightly up by 3.83 pct and closed at 812 points for the same period. The Supramax and handy size index were down by about 2.05 pct and 4.13 pct closing and 908 points and 533 points respectively.
In the Far East/SE Asia, the Supramax charter rates continued to be soft and most vessels were rating around US$ 12,000 per day passing Singapore, but charterers were rating lower than US$ 12K. Panamax rates were also continued to be soft with owners rating around US$ 8,500 per day delivery South China. Freight rates are expected to be follow same trend next week.
The average charter rates were at Cape/US$ 8,831 per day , Panamax/US$ 6,539 per day , Supramax/US$ 9,496 per day and Handy size/US$ 7,928 per day.
The futures for three years (2014-2016) was at around Cape/US$ 23,000 per day, Panamax/US$ 12,500 per day, Supramax/US$ 12,500 per day , Handy size/US$ 10,000 per day.
The route S8 route softened further and was down by 3.75 pct closing at US$ 9,656 per day (last week US$ 10,033 per day ). Freight rates from Indonesia to India is expected to be soft next week.
The Brent crude oil prices was slightly up by 2.05 pct and closed at US$ 109.53 per barrel (last week US$ 107.33 per barrel). The bunker prices was slightly up and closed at 590.00 pmt (IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 17th April 2014).
